Meet Rosemary Baumuller

My name is Rosemary Baumuller-you may know my son, Bob Baumuller’92; Hound and current teacher at Notre Dame.  What you may not know is that in 1958, my family moved from Switzerland to Ontario to open up a European-style bakery and coffee shop.

Our journey with Notre Dame first began after reading about the School is our local newspaper. Bob was set on attending the school and playing hockey for the Notre Dame Hounds. Many Notre Dame hockey teams would stop by the bakery for a bite to eat before continuing on the road to their next tournament – this added to Bob’s fascination with the school; he was hooked.

In the fall of 1988, Bob began his first day at Notre Dame. Although it was hard for us to leave our only son, there were so many caring people in Wilcox and it comforted us to know he was in good hands. At first, he may have wanted to come home but he pulled through and stayed at Notre Dame until he graduated as a 4 year Hound in 1992. Although he was doubtful in the beginning, he ultimately enjoyed his experience. If you asked him now, he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Although Wilcox may be out in the “boonies,” there is a certain level of closeness amongst the students that is rare to find anywhere else.

Life often gets busy and people may forget about their experiences at Notre Dame. I think people may occasionally need a friendly reminder that the School needs our support to continue running; a lot of people giving a little makes a big difference in the end.

I personally give back to Notre Dame because the School taught my boy many valuable lessons and is the reason why he is the man he is today.
